Hinterlands

January 2022

Hinterlands is a publication focusing on lived reality and narratives of rural or non-urban areas in and beyond Europe. Each issue is defined in scope by the colour of its cover, bringing together entries based in the written word or the photographic image that elaborate the plurality of life ways existing within the hinterlands. Going beyond popular media coverage of these regions, the magazine seeks to counter common, romanticised, and derogatory understandings of what rural life is.
