Shin-chan: Me and the Professor on Summer Vacation – The Endless Seven-Day Journey mixes images of the Japanese bucolic with childhood nostalgia. A spiritual addition to the My Summer Vacation series, the game distorts time and settles on the beauty of doing absolutely nothing as players accompany the popular anime and manga character, Shin, on adventures mundane and otherworldly. Kaz Ayabe, head of the game’s development company, Millennium Kitchen, cites trips gone by and the films of Ozu as inspiration for the series’ unique approach to story progression. Now, through its English-language release on the Nintendo Switch, players can (re-)encounter the endless, yet hopelessly finite, summer vacations of youth.
